Jesus was characterized by prayer. A person of prayer is also a person of humility and faith.

What kind of person is effective in prayer? What kind of person knows great power in prayer? There are several characteristics of a person who will be effective in prayer. First and foremost, he is a person of the Word.

Most of God’s faithful were expecting a Messiah very different from how Jesus was. No feature of Jesus’ earthly ministry was more conspicuous than the tenderness of His feeling for the woes and sufferings of men.

If we are going to be like Jesus, then we will seek to love as He did. We look at some of the qualities of this supreme demonstration of love, and flesh out how we reflect this.

The “love of God” is actually a very difficult doctrine. We must learn to adopt a biblical perspective on God’s love.

Our current life was never the main thing in God’s plan. We must keep thinking about Heaven, the disciple’s true home. We must keep thinking about the coming of the Lord and living eternally with Him in our real home. We must long for His coming.

Nothing in the life of a true disciple is left untouched by the law of his new kingdom — but the beginning point is his thinking. Disciples are to go through life in this world being heavenly-minded.

The Christian life is pictured as a race that is to be run with perseverance. Yet there are times in our lives that make this a challenge; there are times when we may feel like giving up, including in times of difficulty, temptation, and persecution.
