Mark 3:13-19 The choice of the twelve disciples was by the sovereign appointment of Christ. Christ had specific purposes for these men. A brief overview of each disciple is given.

Mark 3:7-12 There are only two ways to think about Jesus Christ — He is either who and what Scripture says of Him, or He’s someone or something else. The Pharisees and the demons thought they knew who He was, but they only saw Him as their Destroyer, not their Savior.

Mark 2:23-3:6 Using the Sabbath as a backdrop, two problems with a legalistic approach to living our lives before God become evident.

Mark 2:18-22 While fasting can have physical and spiritual benefits, Jesus details how fasting would have been inappropriate at that time, because the disciples’ lives were marked with joy, not mourning.

Mark 2:13-17 Levi (Matthew) had a lot to give up, but Christ knew his heart was hungry and ready to receive something higher. Jesus was not afraid to associate with sinners for the purpose of sharing the Gospel.

Mark 2:1-12

Mark 1:40-45 Jesus heals a leper. He could have just spoken and it would have been done, but Jesus touches him, illustrating Is. 53:12. The law could only condemn the leper, but what the law could not do, Jesus could. Having headed the leper, Jesus warns him to tell no one, but go to the priests. Jesus focus was on His preaching, not becoming a side show. The leper disobeys, and Jesus was forced to leave the city, in order to continue preaching.

Mark 1:29-38 Jesus continues to demonstrate His authority. Unlike worldly authority, He was powerful, but also compassionate. Jesus showed His authority by His power. He showed His dependency on the Father by prayer. Jesus declares His purpose, not miracle-worker, but redeemer.

Mark 1:21-28 Jesus begins His public preaching ministry. The people were amazed by His authority. Unlike other teachers of His day, Jesus spoke with a firs hand knowledge of Scripture. His authority over a posing demon, confirmed His teaching. The people were a astounded. Unfortunately amazement did not equal belief. News of His teaching and power spread.

Mark 1:16-20 Christ calls two sets of brothers, Simon and Andrew, then James and John. All were fishermen; all used nets; all responded immediately. When preaching the gospel, remember the net method of fishing.
